Master Styling Tips

Perfecting the wet-set roll, like anything, takes practice. Thankfully, our founder has been wet setting her hair for about 30 years and is excited to share her abundant knowledge on how to roll the perfect set. By following along with these tips and tricks, achieving seamless styles can be possible. Remember… the more practice, the better your set will be!

Here are our most essential tips and tricks for a successful roll:

  • Use products that are specific to your hair texture to achieve perfect curls. Some hair textures hold a curl better than others, so it is important to give your hair the tools it needs to create a perfect curl.
  • Make the sections of hair small – you want them to be slightly less wide than the width of the Barrelette and you want the section of hair not to be too thick. If it is too thick, it will take way too long to dry!
  • The key to a smooth, non-frizzy curl is the preparation of the hair section. Pick up the hair section and brush down from the scalp to the end of the hair until the section is completely smooth. This will reduce frizzy curls!
  • When the hair is brushed completely smooth and long, it’s time to roll. Be sure the ends of the hair are tucked in under the Barrelette. This will ensure your ends are smoothly curled.
  • Twisting the Barrelette is one of our founder’s biggest tips. After you do the first roll of the Barrelette into the hair, twist the Barrelette in the same direction you are rolling the hair within the roll. This twisting motion will make sure the ends are completely tucked in the Barrelette, which is essential to achieving a perfect curl.
  • The sections at the base of your head should be rolled in the opposite direction of the rest of the hair sections. If not, the hair will puff up and create an undesirable bump at the base of your head.
  • Once the hair has completely dried, leave the rollers in place until the hair has cooled. This will ensure the setting of the curl.

We hope you find these tips and tricks as helpful as we do. Don’t get discouraged if rolling doesn’t come easy at first. Just keep practicing and rolling with our tips and tricks… you will be a pro in no time! For more tips and tricks, as well as tutorials, feel free to visit our  Instagram and YouTube channel.
